What should your community be prepared for in the future when it comes to internet speeds and technology?
Today, many communities have access to high-speed internet networks. These networks along with the current climate have transformed the way that people work, learn, and ultimately live on a day-to-day basis.
Internet traffic is increasing very rapidly. With more people relying on the internet to accomplish everyday tasks and with more devices used per person, the demand on the network is growing immensely. Additionally, new technology uses more bandwidth than older technology, and that pattern is going to continue well into the future because of the internet of things (IoT).
IoT is an acronym that simply defines technological items that are rooted with processing ability, intelligence, software, and other technologies that connect data with other devices and systems over the internet.
Initially, IoT was known for its role in generating smart homes furnished with automated refrigerators smart enough to order groceries for you, self-adjusting thermometers, and automatic coffee machines, but it has since then transformed into objects we all know and have today. These days, there are so many different IoTs that serve different purposes and are incredibly common. Some of these include the Ring Doorbell, Amazon Echo, and Google Home, among others.
It’s clear that over time these items have become more popular and will continue to do so, but what technology is needed to continue supporting them as they become more common?
Fiber infrastructure! Because IoTs are connected devices, supporting them on the right network and having services from the right network provider is incredibly important. Fiber optics can transmit much more data over longer distances with less loss, thanks to its higher bandwidth.
Statista predicted that by 2025 the number of IoT devices worldwide will reach 75.44 billion. As you think through preparing your community for the future, what are you doing to ensure your community has the network needed to support all future technologies? The answer should be looking into fiber optics. Fiber optic connectivity allows your community to take advantage of these common technologies and to support the continued growth over the coming years.
Fiber infrastructure will become the only option to support technology’s ongoing needs, such as growth in IoTs, among other technology trends. Make sure you equip your community for the future.
